Gluten-Free Grains Are Now on the Plains

On April 11, Auburn University officially became home to the first certified gluten-free, on-campus restaurant in the nation—Plains 2 Plate.

Auburn students struggling with gluten intolerance or celiac disease have finally been provided with a fun, safe place to eat—no longer having to worry about gluten cross-contamination.

Plains 2 Plate has been an Auburn dining option for the past couple years, but they have made some pretty big changes recently—namely entirely eliminating gluten from their menu. We couldn't wait to try the new gluten-free options, so we decided to stop by for lunch a few days ago. The menu offered us many different options—ranging from home-style southern cooking to locally-raised shrimp.

We personally tried the shrimp skewers (April’s special entrée), fresh fruit, pasta salad and a wrap. Everything was flavorful, filling and delicious (Editor’s note: the gluten-free noodles have a distinct texture, so keep that in mind). The best part? It was all gluten-free. We were really impressed with the variety as well—we can’t wait to try the barbecue next time! We love this upgrade to Auburn’s dining experience, and we encourage you to check it out for yourself.

You can find Plains 2 Plate in Lupton Hall in the Quad near the Sciences Center Auditorium.

Be well, Auburn.
