The Rec on Tech: Listen Up!

Listening to music and working out. They’re like Oreos and milk — they just go together.

Whether we’re pumping iron or running on the track, we all have our own favorite styles of workout music. From the electrifying guitar riffs of classic rock to the fast-paced beats of EDM, our playlists can define our workout. Are you looking for a new way to complement your workout with the best beats? Well, today I’ve got an app that can take your music-based workout to the next level.

FIT Radio

Spotify, Pandora, SoundCloud, etc. There are dozens of apps that play the types of music you want to hear. But what if I told you that there is an app that customizes a playlist specifically for your workout? If that interests you, then check out FIT Radio. Unlike the typical music apps, FIT Radio exists solely for workout playlists. The premium version has a total of 25 genres and stations for you to choose from, and each station has a beats-per-minute estimate, so you can base your choice off your workout’s intensity.

Want to set your own BPM? Don’t worry, that’s covered too. FIT Radio allows you to set your target BPM, so if you only want to hear slow tunes or fast beats you can. Each station has plenty of DJ-created mixes. New mixes are added often, so you’ll get a wide variety of songs. The mixes last around 40 minutes each and can shuffle through 30 or more songs to keep the intensity of your workout consistent. Feel free to toggle on or off features such as music censorship and occasional motivational quotes in the app’s settings.

Aside from the basic genres, FIT Radio also has its own genres that differentiate it from other musical apps. You have access to stations specially curated for Yoga, Zumba, powerlifting and many more! FIT Radio also offers a few useful tools to help you track your work out. Swipe left or right while on a station, and you can quickly access a Pace Tracker and Timer, which allow you to monitor your run or set rest times for lifts.

The app itself is free, which allows you to try one station with a decent variety of mixes, but you can easily upgrade to the premium version for a monthly fee of $3.99. But don’t worry, you can try-before-you-buy, with FIT Radio’s 3 hour free trial of their premium membership.

FIT Radio offers an easy-to-use way to change how music fits into your workout. It’s different, it’s got some solid customization options, and it is significantly cheaper than Spotify Premium. If you’re on the fence about your workout music, FIT Radio has got your back.

If you love listening to music while you work out, I highly recommend downloading the app and checking out their free trial. Try it during a workout, and see if it’s right for you. FIT Radio makes sure that you have something you want to hear, whether it’s for a cool down or a long jog or run. You’re welcome.

Be well, Auburn.
