How to Airbnb Like a Champ

Looking to travel cheap, but not sure where to stay? Check out our guest tips and etiquette for your next Airbnb experience.

Tip #1 – Make Your Profile Stand Out

With Airbnb, it’s important to build trust between host and guest. You can do this by making an inviting profile with a good photo of yourself and reviews from your Airbnb friends.  This will increase your chances of booking a reservation.

Tip #2 – Read the Reviews

As a guest, it’s important to read through all the reviews so you know exactly what you are getting into — the good and the bad. If you love certain amenities, and a previous guest mentions them, you’ll be glad you read them. And if you have a deathly fear of ants, and a previous guest mentions ants, you’ll be extra glad you read them.

Tip #3 – Talk with Your Host

Introduce yourself. Tell them why you’re traveling, who you’re traveling with, your plans for the stay, and any accommodations you might need during your trip. It is important to win over your host because they ultimately have the decision to accept or refuse your reservation. Closer to your stay, be sure to let your host know when you’re arriving.  Continue the conversation during your stay and communicate any problems. Most can be easily fixed.

Tip #4 – Be on Your Best Behavior

Remember you are not in a hotel. Treat the property like it is your best friend’s grandma’s house. Clean up the kitchen after you cook, turn off the lights when you leave a room, and keep the rooms tidy. Even though a cleaning fee is included in the reservation, pick up what you can before heading out. And don’t forget to be mindful of their neighbors!

Tip #5 – Write a Review

After you leave, be sure to write a review. Hosts love getting feedback about your stay. The review should include your thoughts about the host, property, and location. Your review will help future guests pick the right property for their needs. If you have anything negative to say, make sure your criticisms are fair. Nobody’s perfect!

Tip #6 – Refer Someone

Already looking to travel again? Want a discount on your next reservation? Airbnb has an awesome referral program for both guests and hosts. Just by getting a friend to sign up, you can make your next adventure even cheaper.
