The Best Hiking Trails Around Auburn

Auburn is notorious for its beauty and outdoor sights.

Sunsets on Samford and the rolling hills attract people from all over the country. To add to the already-charming environment, Auburn is home to some incredible hiking trails. Rivers, waterfalls, and rock formations make hiking in Auburn an experience you can’t get just anywhere.

Chewacla State Park

Chewacla features ten main trails, all of which range from easy one-milers to more advanced, highly elevated trails. This park has a trail for everyone, from beginners to experienced hikers looking for a real workout. Not to mention, the park includes multiple breathtaking waterfalls as well as a 26-acre lake. Chewacla is a personal favorite of mine that my friends and I have been hiking (okay, walking) for years.

Kreher Preserve and Nature Center

In addition to over six miles of walking trails, Kreher offers guided hikes for all skill levels. This park is very kid-friendly and has many showcases, ranging from reptile walks to “S’mores with Mom” parties. Kreher also offers camps and rentals for private events in the park. If you are looking for an easy-going, fun experience, this is the park for you.

Town Creek Park

Town Creek Park is a park aimed more at walking than at hiking. In fact, they’re building a brand new walking trail around their large pond. Most of these trails are paved and feature beautiful wooden bridges to enhance your experience. When walking the trails, you will find yourself surrounded by greenery and lively nature. A stroll through this park is exactly what you need when looking for peace and quiet. In addition to walking trails, Town Creek also hosts the Spring Sundown Concert Series in May, where community members gather on the green space for live music.

Lake Wilmore Trail

Lake Wilmore Park is a 1.8-mile trail on Ogletree Road. It’s lesser-known, as the entrance is located at Ogletree Elementary. The trail supports hiking, biking, running, and walking, and features beautiful creeks and falls to cross. If you want to feel like a true Auburn native, Lake Wilmore Trail is a secret spot worth exploring.

Auburn is surrounded by parks and trails that work for all skill sets. Grab your friends and get active!

Be well, Auburn.
