5 Must-See Movies for the Ultimate Christmas Movie Marathon

5 Must-See Movies for the Ultimate Christmas Movie Marathon

"I planned out our whole day: First, we'll make snow angels for two hours, and then we'll go ice skating, and then we'll eat a whole roll of Toll House cookie dough as fast as we can, and then to finish, we'll snuggle."

And have a Christmas movie marathon, duh.

There’s nothing better than snuggling up on the couch with warm cookies and hot cocoa during the holidays. Add a Christmas movie to the mix and you have the makings for a perfect night. To save you the trouble of looking through hundreds of movie options, we’ve come up with the perfect Christmas movie marathon list.

Home Alone

Released in 1990, this movie is a classic like no other. Home Alone is based around a kid who is accidentally left alone on Christmas. That’s no fun, right? Wrong. The main character has a blast fighting off burglars that try to break into his family’s home. This funny throwback will leave you wanting more, and luckily, there are four sequels to look forward to.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

A Christmas movie AND a musical, all in one. I know what you’re thinking: Is this a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie? (Rightfully so.) The movie does, in fact, start off in Halloween Town, with ghosts, skeletons, the whole nine yards. However, the main character ends up in an entirely different holiday world, Christmas Town! What happens when the two worlds collide? Guess you’ll have to find out for yourself.

The Polar Express

The Polar Express is a universal favorite when it comes to Christmas classics. Hop aboard for a fast-paced, magical adventure filled with lessons of friendship, bravery, and self-discovery. Although the movie is a little on the eerie side, the vibes are nostalgic and it’s a must-see.

How The Grinch Stole Christmas

The Grinch stole all of the Whos’ Christmas presents … and the hearts of millions of people, including myself. This one tugs on the heartstrings, showing how Christmas is different for everyone and how love can change someone’s circumstances. The movie’s lessons are real and will have your heart growing three sizes.

Elf

Elf never gets old. It’s one of the only movies that’s somehow funnier every time you watch it. That’s all you need to know. Just add it to your list, and remember, "The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear."

From family classics to something on the “scarier” side, we’ve covered it all. Light the fireplace, grab a tasty treat, put on one of these movies, and enjoy.

Merry Christmas, and…

Be well, Auburn.
