A Love Letter to Auburn

This semester hasn’t been exactly “normal,” but it has given me plenty of time to do some reflecting on what I love most about this place. Sure, football and formals are fun; but the majority of the Auburn experience is spent elsewhere—for me, the little things are just as worth celebrating. So, here’s a list of uniquely ~Auburn things~ that I’ll remember most when my time here is up!

The Fight Song Chimes at 12 o’clock Noon

There’s nothing quite like the feeling you get walking out of class at 11:50 and hearing the sweet, sweet sound of our melodic fight song from Samford Hall. Something about the whole thing being bells makes it so much more fun to listen to—or is that just me? Either way, it’s an Auburn classic that deserves more recognition.

That Perfect Study Spot on Campus

This one’s kind of a cop-out, because my personal favorite study spot probably isn’t the same as everyone else’s (bottom floor of the Rec, anyone?), but I’m willing to bet that a specific image popped up in your mind when you read that. Let me know what yours is. I’ve been on the hunt for a new place!

Waiting for Basketball Games (waaay) Outside of the Arena

Is it just me, or is waiting in line for an Auburn basketball game just as much of an experience as the game itself? Bonding with people in line is a big part of the fun, and I think the insane energy in the Arena comes in large part from the atmosphere of the fans waiting for hours outside.

SGA Elections

Okay, I know this is mega controversial, but hear me out! No matter how much you may dread the fated week of avoiding the concourse at all costs, I think it’s very admirable that Auburn is home to so many students who are passionate about making a difference. Auburn has the highest voter turnout of all the schools in the SEC, which is amazing. War Eagle to that!

The Pizza in Village Dining

Another entry that might be entirely too specific to me, but the pizza at Village Dining slaps. Let me be the first to say that it is, in fact, a must try in terms of on-campus food. I’m not sure exactly what it is, but I can say that I’ll be craving a slice long after I’m gone from the Plains.

There you have it! The little things are entirely worth celebrating— especially if they taste as good as that pizza. Is there anything I missed? Let us know in the comments below!

As always,

Be well, Auburn.

Creative Director

Born in Mobile, Alabama, Hannah’s decision to attend Auburn came as a nasty shock to her Alabama-loving family. They’ve since come around, though she suspects her mom will never remove her crimson license plate from her car. Hannah is a junior studying visual media and minoring in marketing, and, like her mom and her license plate, you’ll never see Hannah without her Canon in tow.

Hannah’s likes include her roommate’s homemade cookies, true crime podcasts, and Auburn Basketball. Besides The Rec, Hannah works as an extra on film and TV shows — she has played everything from an elf to a bomb victim, and her eternal fun fact is that she was in Stranger Things. Hannah’s dream is to one day make her own movies, and she’s already written her acceptance speech for Best Director at the Oscars.
