Tying it All Together: Gift-Wrapping Tips

Tying it All Together: Gift-Wrapping Tips

'Tis the season to be jolly! Nothing spreads joy quite like beautifully wrapped Christmas gifts.
The art of gift wrapping is a timeless tradition that can turn an ordinary present into a work of art.

Whether you consider yourself a pro or just starting, there's always room to elevate your gift-wrapping skills. In this blog, we will dive into the world of festive paper, ribbons, and bows to learn how to create presents that will dazzle under the tree.

Gather Your Supplies

Before you embark on your gift-wrapping adventure, make sure you have all the necessary supplies on hand. You will need:

  • Wrapping paper in various colors and patterns

  • Scissors

  • Tape (double-sided tape is a great option for seamless wrapping)

  • Ribbon or twine

  • Gift tags or labels

  • A ruler or straight-edge

  • A flat, clean workspace

Measure and Cut Carefully

One of the keys to perfectly wrapped gifts is precise measurements. Always measure your wrapping paper to ensure it covers the gift without excessive overlap. Use a ruler or straight edge to make straight cuts.

Choose High-Quality Paper

Invest in quality wrapping paper. Thicker paper is easier to work with and provides a more luxurious finish. It's also less likely to tear or crease when you're wrapping your gifts. Opt for Christmas-themed patterns, traditional red and green, or your favorite festive designs. Some places where you can find affordable and high-quality wrapping paper are Hobby Lobby, Target, or Michaels.

Neat Folding and Creasing

To achieve crisp and tidy corners, follow these steps:

  1. Place the gift in the center of the paper.

  2. Fold one side of the paper over the gift and secure it with tape.

  3. Fold the other side over the first, ensuring a clean edge, and tape it in place.

  4. For the ends, fold the top and bottom edges in towards the center and secure with tape, creating clean triangular flaps.

  5. Fold the flaps down and secure for a neat, finished look.

Create Beautiful Bows and Ribbons

Ribbons and bows add a touch of elegance to any wrapped gift. You can choose from a variety of styles, including classic bows, hand-tied bows, and even simple twine for a rustic feel. Here's my favorite way to create a classic bow:

  1. Cut a length of ribbon, fold it in half, and create a loop.

  2. Make a second loop on the other side, ensuring they are roughly the same size, and repeat more than once to create a fuller-looking bow.

  3. Secure the two loops together at their base with a small piece of tape.

  4. Cut another small strip of ribbon, wrap it around the taped center, and secure it with tape or a dab of glue.

  5. Fluff the loops to create a finished look.

Personalize with Gift Tags

Never underestimate the power of a well-chosen gift tag. They can add a personal touch to your presents and help recipients identify their gifts. You can buy pre-made tags or create your own by cutting shapes from extra wrapping paper and writing personalized messages.

Practice Makes Perfect

Perfecting your gift-wrapping skills takes practice. Don't get discouraged if your first attempts are less than flawless. Keep practicing, and soon you'll be a gift-wrapping pro. You can even make it a fun family activity or invite friends over for a gift-wrapping party.

The joy of giving and receiving beautifully wrapped presents is an integral part of the Christmas season. Perfecting your gift-wrapping skills can turn this act of generosity into an art form. So, gather your supplies, measure carefully, choose quality paper, fold neatly, create beautiful bows, and personalize with gift tags. With practice and a little creativity, you'll make your Christmas gifts stand out under the tree. Remember, it's not just the gift that counts; it's the thought, effort, and care you put into making the presentation special.

Happy Holidays…

Be well, Auburn.

Growing up in the small town of Palmetto, Georgia, Laina knew she wanted to go to a big SEC university and get out of her comfort zone. After visiting Auburn, she fell in love with the campus and she knew it was where she would end up.

Laina is a junior studying Graphic Design, Business, and Marketing. When she’s not at work or in class, you can find her at Taco Mama with friends, on a run, planning a trip, or calling her grandmother to discuss all things fashion and life. She also loves being involved at Auburn and meeting new people every chance she gets, whether it be through on-campus organizations or at her church.
