Easter: a wonderful time of the year for so many reasons.

The flowers are blooming, the sunlit hours of the day are becoming longer, and your seasonal depression is getting cured. The warm weather of Summer is just around the corner, but that is no reason to rush through Spring. It is important to celebrate both Spring and Easter. Here are some of my favorite Easter activities to enjoy with your family and friends.

Easter cookie decorating

One of my personal favorites, decorating sugar cookies, is a great activity for all ages. I like to make it a friendly competition, so it is a cookie contest at my house. Competition or not, decorating cookies is a great way to show your creativity and get into the Easter spirit.

Dyeing Easter eggs

I would consider this a typical tradition. At some point, everyone needs to dye eggs for Easter. Dyeing eggs is to Easter as Gingerbread houses are to Christmas— they just go together. Although eggs are costly right now, if you can get your hands on some, this is a classic Easter activity.

Easter Egg Hunts

This was my favorite of the activities as a child, especially when I found the golden egg. Now that I am older, I still participate by hiding the eggs for the younger children. This is a fun activity to get out of the house and enjoy the Spring sunshine!

4. Gifting Easter Baskets

Whether it is from your family, friends, or the Easter bunny, getting an easter basket full of candies is always a great surprise. As a child, along with the candy, I loved getting a new swimsuit and flip-flops in my basket— my mom is all about giving practical gifts. Additionally, it is a tradition for us to get a chocolate bunny in our baskets, even though we do not like them. Contrary to popular belief that Halloween candy is the best, no holiday candy can beat Easter candy in my opinion!

5. Decorate an Easter Egg Tree

Similar to decorating a Christmas tree, you can decorate a tree, indoors or out, with spring-like pastels and brightly colored eggs. Growing up, we would hang plastic eggs on a tree in our front yard to bring a pop of color to the lawn.

6.  Wear your Sunday best

For as long as I can remember, I have gone shopping every Spring to pick out a new dress to wear on Easter Sunday. My family tends to match for church on Easter Sunday. Although this is not the reason for the season, if you're a shopaholic, you can use this as an excuse to splurge on a new outfit. Ditch the dark colors of winter, and opt for a pretty pastel to accentuate the colors of spring.

All in all, Easter is a great time to fellowship with friends and family, enjoy the new Spring weather, and celebrate the joy associated with this holiday. From me to you, “Hoppy” Easter, and…
