Hufflepuff, Slytherin and Gryffindor, Oh My!

Discover which intramural sport you should play based on your Hogwarts house.

The Rec offers a wide variety of exciting intramural sports. If you are interested in playing a sport, but don’t know where to start, don’t give up yet. What if your Hogwarts house could help you decide? Whether you’re a Hufflepuff, Slytherin, Ravenclaw or Gryffindor, we have the ideal intramural sport for you.

Hufflepuff

Plenty of intramural sports could be the perfect fit for hardworking and loyal Hufflepuffs. As renowned team players, Hufflepuffs enjoy team sports like softball, sand volleyball, inner tube water polo and ultimate frisbee. Since Hufflepuffs don't often seek confrontation, these sports are quite fitting. Softball, inner tube water polo, and ultimate frisbee all involve little direct contact with opponents, while sand volleyball involves none. These four group-oriented and playful intramural sports are ideal for Hufflepuffs.

Slytherin

Slytherin

For ambitious and cunning Slytherins, outdoor soccer, tennis doubles, basketball, and racquetball are perfect intramurals. Though Slytherins aren’t known for their teamwork abilities, they are loyal and protective of their own. With their fellow Slytherins in tow, they strive for intramural fame and “house pride” together in soccer or basketball, while simultaneously quenching their thirst for confrontation. Their overall desire for glory can also be satisfied by playing racquetball singles or tennis doubles, which put Slytherins’ cunning to strategic use. The determined and shrewd Slytherin house members will enjoy any and all of these challenging intramural sports.

Ravenclaw

Competitive and always hungry for knowledge, Ravenclaws are destined to play intramural bowling, inner tube water polo, racquetball, and sand volleyball. They are perpetually curious and love learning new things, which explains why they might be interested in unique sports. Ravenclaws are also independent and tend to enjoy their alone time, so sports like bowling might pique their interest. Ravenclaw house members have a common aversion to conflict (other than intellectual debates), so sports with little-to-no contact with opponents are ideal. These unconventional intramural sports are the best match for the inquisitive, intellectual and open-minded Ravenclaws.

Gryffindor

Gryffindor

For the brave, bold, “go big or go home” house, it only makes sense that the biggest intramural sports are their best fits. Outdoor soccer, ultimate frisbee, softball, and basketball are undoubtedly the ideal intramural sports for Gryffindors. Gryffindor house members constantly need to be a part of the action. This explains why contact sports are their go-to. They thrive when faced with competition and prefer to be frequently moving. Their love of other people makes each of these team sports perfect for the heroic Gryffindors. They live up to their reputation as the daring, adventurous, and brave at heart.

Intramurals might not be as magical as the Quidditch World Cup, but when you find your fit, nothing else matters. Think we picked the right intramural sports for your house? Have a suggestion for why another intramural sport makes more sense? Comment below and let us know!
