Where is War Eagle Bike Share?

If you’re like me, you love the thrill of riding a bike. In my first two semesters at Auburn, War Eagle Bike Share provided me the opportunity to rent a bike. Where are those bikes now?

The War Eagle Bike Share bikes were prominently seen around residence halls, the student center, and campus dining. The rental process was easy through the Social Bikes app. The bikes charged on a time basis, but once the bike was properly locked up, the time stopped. My favorite part was the first hour was free! I was able to take advantage of this awesome resource with a friend and it brought back precious memories of riding my bike as a child!

By the looks of the bikes, it was evident that the bikes were consistently in use. The ease of transportation for bikes around campus is unlike any other mode of transportation. Each building has accessible bike racks that make it easy for students to secure their property. The bikes also made getting to class across campus in ten or fifteen minutes much more achievable. So, why would the university remove this useful and effective system?

Maybe this is another negative effect of COVID and online classes? Or the fact that students often have their own personal bikes? Or the definite appearance of misuse and improper treatment? Class is back in person, so the bikes should be back, too. While we wait for the uncertain return of War Eagle Bike Share, don’t waste time — rent a bike from Auburn Outdoors’ Rental Center!

Auburn Outdoors’ Rental Center has multiple bikes such as Mountain Bikes, Fat Bikes, Road Bikes, and Touring Bikes. Each bike rental includes a helmet and lock, and additionally, you can rent bike accessories including a front or rear bike light. You can still experience the thrill of riding or go for a casual cruise thanks to Auburn Outdoors. Continue to take advantage of the beautiful outdoors and …
