The First 14 Days with Recreation and Wellness

One of the best things about The Rec is the number of events they host throughout the year.

Whether you’re a freshman or senior, these events are open to everyone. This fall, The Rec has multiple events during the first 14 days of classes. The first two weeks of classes can be stressful, and it can be difficult to get back in the groove of everything. These events hosted by The Rec can help give you a break from reality when things get too crazy!

Get Rec’d: August 16th

Happy first day of classes! This event hosted by The Rec is a STAPLE, occurring year after year. With 50+ restaurants and local businesses, free food, games, giveaways, contests, fitness activities, and more, this event is a great way to start the semester and learn more about the Auburn community.

The first 2,500 people to arrive can win a t-shirt, while others can enjoy freebies and Auburn prizes. I remember working out at The Rec as a freshman and stopping by this event. To be honest, at the time I had no idea what was going on, but I ended up checking it out and having a blast.

Splash Bash: August 27

Splash Bash is The Rec’s signature poolside event used as another event to kick off the fall semester! You can enjoy the pool, a live DJ, freebies, a diving contest, and free food here. I have always heard of this event but have never been able to attend due to my conflicting schedule. This year, I am making it a priority to go! Free food and a live DJ while getting my tan on by the pool? Count me in.

Demo Days: August 16-31st

Demo Days are free group fit classes during the first two weeks of school. ANY group fitness class at The Rec is free to students as well as faculty members. Take advantage of this and utilize it! Be quick about it though, classes get filled up crazy fast. Personally, I love the group fitness classes. They are so much fun and a great way to get your exercise in. Grab your buddies and sign up for the classes you want to try during Demo Days before they fill up! If you love it enough, you can purchase a group fitness pass for the entire semester.

Field Day Replay: August 11th

Field Day Replay is a brand-new event hosted by The Rec this year. It will be taking place the Friday before classes start as one last final hurrah to the summer. Take yourself back to elementary school and have a field day; limbo, sack race, noodle javelin, you name it! I always looked forward to and had a blast on Field Day when I was little, so why not have it in college at The Rec? Works for me.

Take advantage of these events! They are free and can be a lot of fun and are a great way to de-stress during the first two weeks. Bring your friends or meet new ones there! The first 14 days of classes do not have to be stressful and all school-related, you can take time for yourself and your friends too.
