Summer Vacation Destinations

Summer Vacation Destinations

With summer approaching, I’ve been reminiscing about some of my favorite warm-weather trips over the years. Each place had its own charm, whether it was a hometown tour with friends, a relaxing family beach week, or exploring a new city for the first time.

If you're looking for travel inspiration, here are a few destinations I loved and would totally revisit!

Martha’s Vineyard

This trip was planned spontaneously with my roommates because one of them is from Boston and wanted to show us around her home state. We took the ferry to the island, and as soon as we arrived, it felt like stepping into a movie. The town had a unique charm I had never experienced before, with cute shops selling handmade beachy jewelry and sweatshirts and people riding bikes everywhere. One day, we rented bikes and explored the island, stopping at beaches and scenic overlooks and enjoying amazing seafood along the way. It was one of those trips where we didn’t have a strict itinerary, yet everything turned out perfectly.

Gulf Shores

Last spring, I took a family weekend trip to Gulf Shores. It wasn’t overly crowded, which made it perfect for a relaxing weekend. Each morning, waking up to the sound of waves was so peaceful. We had seafood dinners every night, and the highlight was walking down to the beach at sunset, witnessing the most vibrant sunsets. It was precious family time, especially as we all grow older and busier.

Nashville

During a summer trip with friends, I visited Nashville for the first time and ended up loving it. The city's energy is infectious, with live country music everywhere we went. We stayed downtown, which made it really easy to walk everywhere. Nashville is the perfect destination in the summertime!

San Diego

On a family trip, I fell in love with San Diego. The weather was perfect with no humidity, which is unheard of in Alabama. We stayed near the beach and spent mornings walking along the coast. One day, we drove to La Jolla, a stunning spot with cliffs overlooking the ocean and seals sunbathing on rocks. Downtown San Diego offered a mix of old charm and modern city vibes, and the food scene amazed me, especially the street tacos. San Diego is a place I definitely want to revisit.

Each of these trips offered a different summer escape; some relaxing, some thrilling, but all filled with amazing memories. If you're planning a summer trip, I highly recommend considering one of these destinations.

Be Well, Auburn.
