Baylor Gameday Review From A Former Baylor Bear

After transferring from Baylor to Auburn my sophomore year, I never thought I’d set foot in Waco, Texas again… but when I saw Auburn v. Baylor on the football schedule I knew I had to be there!
Here’s the Baylor gameday experience through the eyes of an ex-bear/current tiger.
Over The brazos
To get to the stadium, students must cross the Brazos River! Although the stadium isn’t located right on campus, Baylor students trade convenience and proximity for beautiful views and traditions. The band leads the way and marches the students towards the stadium. The tension in the atmosphere is palpable on the walk over the bridge and the excitement doesn’t end upon arrival.
Tailgating
Once you cross the bridge, the tailgating begins. Tents are set up all around the stadium and even ON the river! This is a something Baylor fans call “sail-gaiting”. Boats float by the stadium on the water all day until the gates open, then they dock and walk right in. Such a unique way to experience a gameday.
That Good Ol’ Baylor Line
If there’s one thing that Baylor does not lack, it’s tradition. The Baylor line is one everyone should see in their lifetime! Freshman students line up before the game and sprint across the entire field in matching custom jerseys. It’s a hilarious watch… especially as someone who experienced the sprinting, sweating, and fear of being trampled firsthand.
Overall
The people make the place! It was so amazing seeing my good friends at Baylor again. Of course I’m partial to Auburn, but Baylor truly is a special place because of the kindness of the students and staff. It’s safe to say I am proud to be a tiger but will always have a place for the bears in my heart.
