My Gym Bag Must Haves

Everyone’s gym bag looks a little different.

For some, it’s their school backpack or their purse. For others, it’s simply whatever fits in their hands. For me, it’s my beloved mini backpack stuffed full of my go-to gym essentials. Keep reading to discover my unique gym bag must-haves that always make it to The Rec with me.

The Basics

No matter what workout I plan to do, there are a few things that are “no brainers” in my gym bag. First off, I always bring a shaker bottle or reusable water bottle to ensure that I replenish my body with the fluids it needs as I work out. Another basic must have at the gym is headphones. I love having my wireless headphones for working out, but always keep a spare pair of Apple headphones in my bag. For me, a workout without music is simply not a fun time.

Classic Resistance Band

This has come in handy in every phase of my workout career and has never let me down. I use this for warming up and cooling down from my upper body workouts. I also use it in between sets as a burnout, and even while recovering from an injury. The options are endless. Grab whatever strength resistance you need, and your workouts will be sure to have some more variety.

Glute Bands

Did I even hit legs properly before I got a glute band? These circular bands come in a wide variety of resistances, and they are sure to intensify your lower body workouts. Use them for glute activation while you warm up or throw one on during your weighted workouts for a challenge. I also love these bands during HIIT workouts to raise my heart rate and add resistance.

Ankle Strap Cable Attachment

This one is extra…I know. But I promise it’s another leg day game changer. I love targeting my hamstrings and glutes with cable kickbacks, but many gyms don’t provide the proper attachment. Sure, you can use a typical handle attachment, but your ankles will be crying by the end of your set. I picked up an ankle strap attachment from Amazon and it has been a lifesaver. It weighs almost nothing and barely takes up space in my gym bag. Another bonus is that no one else will use your attachment, so it’ll stay new and clean.

Jump Rope

I may not be a cardio queen, but I sure do know how to get a sweat on. One of my favorite ways to ramp up my workouts is by jump roping in between sets. I use a jelly rope that rolls up easily into my gym bag. They are affordable and convenient to bring to the gym, which is why they’re a must-have for me. Jump roping is great for cardiovascular health and a fun way to work on coordination during your workouts.

When I tell you that my workouts aren’t complete without my gym bag essentials…I mean it. I’ve loved using these accessories to ramp up and add variety to my workouts. I encourage you to grab a few for your own gym bag. I promise it’ll be a fun and challenging way to switch up the way you sweat.

Be well, Auburn.

Originally from Nashville, Jordan came down to Auburn to enjoy the beauty of The Plains and to learn the true meaning of War Eagle (which she still does not know). She’s currently a sophomore studying spanish international trade, and has passions ranging from marketing to health and fashion.

Jordan enjoys weightlifting, a good podcast, and will never turn down a hike with her friends. Her favorite way to start the day is with a workout, nutritious breakfast, and cup of iced coffee. She loves living a fast-paced life, and hopes to reside in a big city after her time at Auburn (dogs included). She’s eager for the future, but for now, is enjoying living in the moment.
