Strength-Focused Group Fitness Classes You Should Try

If you’re looking for Group Fitness classes to increase endurance and build strength, you’re in the right place! Group Fitness classes require a Class Pass that can be purchased here and are a great way to find community and motivation.

TigerPump

TigerPump (my personal favorite) is a low-weight, high repetition strength training class. In this class, you can expect to work all parts of the body. Starting with a warmup and ending with a cooldown, this workout focuses on healthy weight-training habits. You will perform exercises such as a squat, bench press, lunge, curl, and many more. I interviewed Alyssa Bohn, a Group Fitness Instructor, and she explained, “I love teaching Tigerpump because it is such a great outlet for me to share my passion for fitness with others.” She continues by expressing excitement when participants workout to her own tracklist! Alyssa finished with, “being a Tigerpump instructor has allowed me to set new fitness goals for myself and stay motivated through a workout, while simultaneously pumping up others!” TigerPump is the class for you if you are looking for upbeat music and to build strength!

Pumped Up Strength

Combining strength and cardio in an upper and lower body workout, Pumped Up Strength is the perfect blend of high-intensity cardio and strength-building exercises. This class has high energy, dynamic music, and will definitely make you sweat!

Butts & Guts

This class is aimed to work the middle and lower body. Although not necessary, this class has the option to boost the challenge by increasing weight. Additionally, Butts and Guts uses resistance bands for exercises such as squats and glute bridges. Lily Strange, a participant of Group Fit Classes for two years, told me in an interview, “Butts and Guts is my favorite class at The Rec because it challenges me, and the instructors make the (sometimes) dreadful exercises fun!” It is perfect if you are looking to strengthen and tone your abs and lower body.

Kettlebell AMPD

Kettlebell AMPD incorporates a fun mix of exercises to work the whole body. A kettlebell is the only equipment needed, and there is a wide range of weights to choose from. This class is sure to build muscle by featuring exercises such as kettlebell swings, arm presses, squats, and curls. Personally, I have taken this class multiple times. The high energy and variety of exercises keeps me coming back!

TRX Circuit

Are you looking for a unique exercise that works the entire body? TRX uses suspension to strengthen muscles. This is one of my favorite classes that is offered. It really challenges my strength and pushes me to use my muscles in extraordinary ways. For example, one move that is commonly performed is a plank. Now, you might think what’s so unique about a plank? In TRX, you put your feet through the suspended handles for an increase in intensity. Trust me, it’s harder than you think!

Bootcamp

This class is structured by rotating stations that work the entire body by incorporating movements that strengthen muscles and increase heart rate. Bootcamp is the ideal workout for those who love to constantly move. The interval training includes approximately forty-five seconds of work and fifteen seconds of rest. Each camp has varying exercises, but some you can expect to see are planks, squats, rope swings, push-ups, and ab work. In an interview with Ashley Ryan, she told me she loves taking Bootcamp because of the energy and variety of exercises. Bootcamp is a great way to include cardio and training in your workout.

The variety will keep it interesting, and help you stay committed. Purchase the Group Fit Class Pass, and give these classes a try!
